Using Military Symbol Generator
The Military Symbol Generator (MSG) is a web-based tool that allows users to design NATO-style unit symbols for use in overlays quickly.
It offers a wide array of templates, modifiers, and color-coding options to reflect different force types, affiliations, and mission roles. The interface features intuitive drag-and-drop capabilities, making it accessible to even new users. Once designed, unit symbols can be exported as PNG files with transparent backgrounds for integration into PowerPoint or Paint.NET overlays.
Players should begin by accessing the MSG interface and selecting the appropriate base symbol, such as infantry, armor, or headquarters. Modifiers—such as echelon markings, mobility indicators, or unique identifiers—can then be added using the side panel. Once the symbol is complete, use the download button to save it for future use in scenario graphics.
In addition to using the MSG, players are encouraged to consult Appendix A3: Reference Documents and Links. This appendix provides a curated list of external tools, reference charts, and symbol libraries that can be used to create unit symbols independently of MSG. These resources include NATO symbology guides, downloadable templates, and alternative symbol generators that may better suit specific project needs or preferences. Referring to Appendix A3 ensures flexibility and broadens the creative options available when building custom unit icons for your overlays.
